NSW: Man holds former wife hostage then begins siege

Police say a man held his former de facto wife hostage at a hotel today before barricading
himself in a house near Newcastle.

A spokesman says police officers went to a Caves Beach hotel this afternoon after reports
that a woman was being held against her will.

A man fled from the hotel and barricaded himself inside a a house in Alexander Place,
Swansea, for four hours before surrendering to police.

The woman held earlier at the hotel was not injured.

A 32-year-old man from Tuggerah Lakes has been charged with kidnapping, assault and
offences relating to firearms and drugs.
