NSW: Man charged with young girl s murder

A 29-year-old man has been charged with murder, kidnapping and having sexual intercourse
with a person under the age of 10, after the body of a five year-old girl was discovered
yesterday.

The body of a five-year-old girl from Cabarita Beach was found lying near a highway
near Brunswick Heads in the state's far north yesterday afternoon.

Police say the man, from Penrith in Sydney's west, was arrested at Hexham and charged
at Maitland overnight.

The body was reportedly discovered after the girl's mother alerted police.

Channel Nine News says the woman travelled south with the man and raised the alarm
when they stopped at a service station at Bulahdelah.

The girl is believed to have been strangled.

The Penrith man was refused bail and is expected to face Maitland Local Court today.
